Ask Denovo - Data Selection Imports Made Easy!

Welcome back to our blog series: Ask Denovo! Today's inquiry comes to us from Jason in Ohio. He writes: "The manual nature of entering data selection lists of values in JDE is entirely too time-consuming. Is there a better way to go about this process that I don't know about?"

Great question Jason! If you’ve used JDE for any length of time, you know the wonderful world of JDE data selection! If you want to enter one data value or a range of values, this process can become almost instinctive! But when it comes to adding a list of values, there is nothing instinctive about it. It is a painstakingly slow process, particularly when we need to enter more than just a few rows of data.

Well, the Google/JDE whizzes of the world, have developed applications, now available for Google Chrome and Edge, that make entering multiple data selection values as easy as copy/paste and we have illustrated, in this post, just how easy this process is! Just follow the steps below and you can thank us later! 😉

Obviously, different products work in different ways, but for this post, the below app has been used (this is not an endorsement!). Many of these Extensions now work with Edge as well as Chrome and are activated in the exact same way as illustrated in the video and instructions below.

Instructions:

JDE Data Selection Import ToolOn the device and browser in which you run JDE, find and install the desired Google Chrome Extension. You can easily find them by searching for “Chrome Extension data import” in either Google Chrome or Edge.

Click "Add to Chrome" (even if it's for Edge).

Login to JDE, select your desired JDE report, and prompt for data selection:

Add your desired “Left Operand” and “Comparison” operators. Then click into the “Right Operand”, select “Literal”, then “List of Values”:

Prepare your data file (excel, csv, text, etc.) and then copy the desired data set.

Select the Google Extension from the puzzle icon on the Toolbar and then select which feature, within the extension, you want to activate:

The Extension will prompt the user with a new window to “Add multiple values”. Paste your copied data set into this window and click the “Add” button:

Upon clicking “Add”, the pasted data values will be loaded into the List of Values box and the Extension window will no longer be displayed:

Note: While all Google Extensions are/can be activated using the puzzle icon, not all Google Extensions for data import work the same way. See instructions in your chosen app to understand its import process.
