I recently had a client in Arizona ask me if there was another field like the Subledger field to reference another data point, specifically a hard-copy paper form number, since they were already populating Subledger with an Address Book number in most other transactions. They were already populating the Remark and Reference fields as well, and they didn't want to use Supplemental Data since that is in a different table. I told them there is indeed! It's all in System 16 - Advanced Cost Accounting, but without the Advanced Cost Accounting part.
When you flip the two switchs to activate system 16 constants in P1609, four new Cost Object fields will appear in these modules:
⬩ General Accounting
⬩ Accounts Payable
⬩ Accounts Receivable
⬩ Inventory Management
⬩ Manufacturing Accounting
⬩ Product Costing
⬩ Procurement Management
⬩ Sales Order Management
⬩ Transportation Management
These cost fields act much like Subledger and Subledger Type in that each of the four Cost Objects have their own Cost Object Type that will validate the Cost Object itself. These are canned values where the Cost Object Types are defined. Notice you can have a validation against an entire master table (1) or against a specific subset of data in that master table (2) or against a UDC table of your choice (3). You can add your own Cost Object Types or take over one in this listing.
Then, during transaction creation like a standard voucher, a purchase order, a journal entry, a sales order, etc., you can fill in Cost Object Type 1 with an "L" for example, then in Cost Object 1's field, the Visual Assist will open up the UDC 01/SC. Best practice is to make the business decision which Cost Objects will be in which ones in order to make reporting more efficient.
